After trailing for most of the game, Florida State stunned Auburn with a late touchdown to win its first national championship since 1999, 34-31.
Kelvin Benjamin hauled in a touchdown pass with 13 seconds to go to seal the victory for the Seminoles in a wild, see-saw finish.
The lead changed three times in the final five minutes. The Seminoles took their first lead since the first quarter with less than five minutes to play on a 100-yard kickoff return by Levonte Whitfield. Auburn quickly answered with a touchdown, but with less than 79 seconds to play, the Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston led the Seminoles on a game-winning drive capped with Benjamin's touchdown.
4th Quarter No More Miracles Left for Auburn
On its final play, with 3 seconds remaining, Auburn tried the hook and ladder, fishing for one final miracle. Lightning didn't strike three times.
Florida State, trailing 21-10 at halftime, used a last-second drive to complete a perfect season and win what could only be described as a classic title game. Back-and-forth, two high-quality teams slugged it out. Good stuff from both sides, and certainly the drama was there.
Got to hand it to Jameis Winston, too, who struggled early on but found his composure and showed up at the end. "I said guys, this is ours," Winston said he told his teammates in the final huddle.

4th Quarter A True Heisman Moment as Florida State Takes Lead
Jameis Winston saved his best for last.
Trailing by four, the Heisman Trophy-winning freshman quarterback drove Florida State down field (helped by a 49-yard reception by Rashad Greene and a key pass-interference call in the red zone) and found his top receiver, Kelvin Benjamin, in the end zone with 13 seconds remaining.
We'd been waiting all game for the 6-foot-6 Benjamin to make a play. He chose the right time to come up big. And so did Winston.
Florida State is seconds away from a title.

4th Quarter More Late Heroics From Auburn
The Tigers had one more miracle left in them.
A 21-yard touchdown run by Tre Mason gives Auburn a 31-27 lead with just 1:19 remaining.
What an impressive drive by Marshall, Mason and Auburn, who looked finished after the F.S.U. punt return but responded in a big way. The Tigers are 79 seconds away from their second B.C.S. title in four years.
— Zach Schonbrun
4th Quarter Florida State Takes the Lead
And, in true Auburn fashion, Florida State takes the lead on a kick return! A 100-yard return by Levonte Whitfield. "Auburn is stung by its own medicine!" cries Brent Musburger. Wow.
— Zach Schonbrun
4th Quarter Auburn Pads Lead, and Kills Some Clock
Tick … tick … tick. Auburn grinds down the clock with its running attack. But Florida State held on in the red zone to force a field goal. There's less than six minutes left and it's now a four-point game.

4th Quarter Auburn Keeps Uptempo Offense Burning
Auburn offense tempo really bringing it to FSU defense. Timmy Jernigan has been on the sideline for three plays trying to catch his breath.

4th Quarter A Florida State Touchdown Followed by a Crucial Penalty
And in no time, Florida State's offense revs up and drives downfield for the touchdown. But, man oh man, F.S.U. gets flagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after the play. That pushes the Seminoles back 15 yards for any potential 2-point conversion attempt. Jimbo Fisher doesn't like those odds. He opts to kick the extra point, meaning Auburn still has the lead, 21-20.
— Zach Schonbrun
4th Quarter First Mistake by Marshall a Costly One
Nick Marshall commits his first mistake of the night, lobbing a pass that had way too much air under it and got intercepted by F.S.U. safety P. J. Williams. A big opportunity for the Seminoles, who can drive now and tie this game with 13 minutes left.
— Zach Schonbrun
3rd Quarter A Slow Third Quarter
It was a quiet third quarter for both teams, but we've started the final 15 minutes of action. Can Florida State find its offensive rhythm in the face of Auburn's defensive pressure? It will have to make the most of its opportunities considering the Tigers' ability to run the football and run down the clock.
— Zach Schonbrun
3rd Quarter Florida State Chips Away at Auburn's Lead
Florida State gets three points closer. Winston may be getting into a rhythm passing the ball, and that could be a scary prospect for Auburn (but a fun one for fans who have no rooting interest, like yours truly).

3rd Quarter The View From the 'Film Room'
I've been watching the Film Room on ESPNNews and, I must say, it is highly entertaining. Various coaches and analysts are breaking down the game as it unfolds. If you love the X's and O's, it's worth checking out. Texas A&M Coach Kevin Sumlin has stolen the show.

3rd Quarter A Tale of Two Quarterbacks
Interesting stat: Winston only 4 completions for positive yards, all to Greene. Marshall has 7 completions to 7 different receivers

HALFTIME Some Halftime Reading
Two college football stories to read during halftime:
Nick O'Leary, a tight end for Florida State, is known for three things: being the grandson of the great golfer Jack Nicklaus, being a favorite target of quarterback Jameis Winston, and surviving a horrific accident.
The Times's Harvey Araton writes that racial barriers never seem to fall fast enough, but Charlie Strong now has one of the premier coaching positions in college football.
— The New York Times
HALFTIME Coach's Wisdom
Some halftime observations by both coaches:
F.S.U. Coach Jimbo Fisher on the fake-punt call that set the Seminoles up for its first touchdown before the half: "We had to do something to make a change."
Auburn Coach Gus Malzahn had few complaints about his 21-10 lead: "Our defense is playing lights-out. I like where we're at."

HALFTIME Different First Half for the Seminoles
Florida State before this game had outscored opponents 369-72 in the first half. For those wondering how they would respond … Stay tuned

2nd Quarter Gamble Pays Off for Florida State
Florida State makes something happen and gets back into this game with a touchdown run by Freeman, cutting the Tigers lead to 21-10.
F.S.U. gambled with a fake punt on 4th and 4, converting on an end-around to keep their drive alive. A long run by Winston put them into the red zone and Freeman did the rest. It's a big momentum swing with less than 90 seconds remaining in the first half.
— Zach Schonbrun
2nd Quarter Auburn's Lead Grows
And, just like that, this game is turning into a romp. Four-yard scamper by Nick Marshall, who may soon be a household name, puts Auburn ahead, 21-3, with 5:01 remaining in the first half. Nothing is going right for Florida State. ESPN analyst Tim Tebow will have a lot to critique.
— Zach Schonbrun
2nd Quarter Spoke Too Soon
And Florida State turns it right back over! Winston coughs up the ball as he's being tackled by two Auburn defenders. Tigers recover it on F.S.U.'s 27-yard line.
— Zach Schonbrun
2nd Quarter Florida State Catches a Break
Florida State catches its first break. A 33-yard field goal attempt by Auburn misses just to the right, busting their chance to go up by two touchdowns. The Tigers' special teams, which were great early on, takes a step back.
Wide Right karma for the Seminoles on that Auburn field goal miss.

2nd Quarter Everything Is Going Auburn's Way
The tempo of this game, both offensively and defensively, is completely in the Tigers' favor. They're running the ball with ease, rushing the passer with ease, and they're driving to go up by three scores in the first half.
— Zach Schonbrun
2nd Quarter Auburn's Defense an Unlikely Force
So about that Auburn defense: 78 yards allowed, sack, constant pressure … Weakest of four main units now story of game so far.
— Greg Bishop (@nytbishop) 7 Jan 14

2nd Quarter Long Touchdown Puts Auburn Up, 14-3
Who said Auburn could only run the ball? Nick Marshall connected on a 50-yard touchdown bomb to Melvin Ray, who got behind the coverage to give the Tigers a 14-3 lead.
But, in fairness, it was Auburn's running prowess that helped open up that play. Seemed like Florida State's defense was lulled to sleep.

1st Quarter An Unfamiliar Place for Florida State
Florida State is trailing for the first time since Sept. 28, nine games ago.
— Zach Schonbrun
1st Quarter Auburn Takes the Lead on Mason Touchdown
And Auburn, on a 12-yard screen to Tre Mason, takes the lead, 7-3.
Auburn started its drive at the 24 after a strong punt return by Chris Davis. The drive ended on a nice screen to Mason, who took it into the end zone practically untouched. Quarterback Nick Marshall has looked sharp tonight. Seemed like he went unmentioned in the lead-up to this game.
— Zach Schonbrun
1st Quarter Good Place to Start
Auburn's offense gets a boost from D/ST. Pinned 'Noles on their one, forced a short punt from their end zone. Starting this drive on FSU 24

1st Quarter Florida State Scores First
Auburn stands tough in the red zone to hold Florida State to a field goal on its opening drive. Somewhat of a moral victory keeping Florida State out of the end zone there.

1st Quarter No Miracles for Auburn Early
Oh boy, Ricardo Louis — he of the miraculous game-winning catch and touchdown against Georgia — drops a wide-open ball over the middle of the field on Auburn's first drive of the game. Florida State is up next.

PREGAME I'm Brent Musberger?
Already there has been one memorable moment of the evening: While introducing himself at the top of the hour, Brent Musburger actually said: "Welcome everybody, I'm Kirk Herbstreit along with Brent Musburger."
More excitement to come, I'm sure!
